If you have a Tesla Model Y and are struggling to figure out how to adjust the headrests, this is the post for you.
Starting at the front of the vehicle, and working our way to the back, let’s take a look at how to adjust all the headrests.
Front Seat Headrests
Unfortunately, the front seat headrests on the Model Y are not directly adjustable like they are in other vehicles. They are built fixed into the seats, so you have to adjust the seat as a whole to move it around.

This can be done via the three toggles and switches on the side of the seat base. You can adjust the height, tilt and backrest to make your driving position correct and comfortable.
Second Row Headrests
The rear seats, or if you have three rows of seats, the second row, have adjustable headrests, including the one in the center.
So, if you want to adjust your Model Y headrests or remove the headrests in the back, this is how you do it.
How to lift Tesla headrest
The rear second row seats on either side have adjustable headrests that can be pulled upwards and clicked into position. The locking mechanism at the bottom can be pushed to release and readjust the position.

Because it sits flush with the top of the seats the middle headrest must be extended up if there is a middle passenger. You can lift up the headrest by grabbing the lower portion of the headrest and it will click into place.
There is a locking mechanism at the bottom that can be released to adjust the height once it has clicked into place.

You can also see the middle seat adjustment in action in this video.
We just bought our Tesla Y, and the headrest forces my head forward in an uncomfortable way. I was surprised it was not adjustable. Is there anything I can do to make it more comfortable in an upright position for when I drive? This seems like a serious problem, since one reason we bought the Tesla was for long drives. We were only on the road for 30 minutes, and as a passenger I tried to adjust the seat, but the only way it did not push my neck forward in a painful way, was all the way back and down. That would not work if I was driving. Can these be changed for an adjustable headrest for the front seat at a cost? Im willing to pay. I just want to be able to enjoy my new car. Thank you
